Carmen the Campervan

Home / Driving

Dimensions

REMEMBER: Carmen is much longer than your average car, so obstacles need to be given a much wider birth.

Carmen is approximately 2.7m high, 6m long and 2.2m wide.

Preparing to Drive

BATON DOWN THE HATCHES before moving

  • Close all vents, top hatch and windows
  • All Cupboards should be closed, and items secured by bungee ropes where necessary.
  • The fridge is the only one that needs to be locked.
  • Stow away anything out on kitchen and cupboard sides in the kitchen cupboards- make sure everything is tight otherwise you will have a noisy journey!
  • Turn the table so that it sits with the longest side paralell to the reading ledge, use the decorative cushions at each side to stop the table banging into the walls whilst driving
  • Try to make sure the pans in the cupboards are arranged so they don’t move around too much
  • Make sure you have unplugged the electric hook up before moving off!

Fuel

Carmen drinks DIESEL; the fuel cap is on the left next to the passenger door, you need to have the key to open the fuel gap.

Please return her fuel full – we will check, it’s only fair to the next people!

Oil & Water

If you are taking Carmen for more than 2 weeks, please check and top up oil and water levels if needed, I will check these prior to your rental.

Starting the Van

The van is fitted with a immobilizer that takes a few seconds to deactivate before the van will start.

  1. Insert the key and turn until the daskboard lights come on
  2. Wait until the padlock light goes out
  3. Turn the key until the starter motor engages and release when the engine starts

If the padlock doesn't go out or engine doesn't start in a few seconds then fully remove the key and start again.

Driving Controls

Carmen has a 6-speed manual gearbox, power steering and a manual handbrake. Despite being a large van she is not complicated to drive. Pulling away is the same as in any vehicle, by using first gear and releasing the hadbrake as the clutch bites.
