Carmen the Campervan

Home / Cooking & Gas

There is 1 x propane gas cylinder in the back of the van on the left-hand side accessed via the backdoors. The gas supplies the cooker.

Gas Safety

WARNING! Do not use the cooker without proper ventilation!

All gas appliances can produce Carbon Monoxide (CO). Carmen has a combined Smoke and CO detector fitted, but to avoid the risk of suffocation it is very important to provide plenty of ventilation while using the cooker. This could be leaving the door/window open, or by using the extractor fan above the cooker (it should be adjusted to high while cooking).

It is also important to ensure the area around the cooker is clear to avoid the risk of fire. This includes the kitchen blinds, which should be up while cooking.

Cooker

The gas hob has auto-ignition which needs the inverter to be switched on. You push down on the dial and make a quarter-turn anti-clockwise. Once the flame has ignited you can release the dial and adjust the flame.

If you cannot hear the click of the igniter, then double check that the inverter is switched on.

Replacing the Gas

You should have enough gas in the tank for the duration of your trip, but if it runs out you need to find a “Calor Gas” retailer.

Please keep the receipt for the gas you purchase, and we will refund you. We cannot provide a refund without a receipt.
